Portugal: stable again and growing
Portugal has a population of around 10 million people. The country was heavily hit during the 2008 financial crisis, but has recovered since then. The great majority of the international trade is done within the European Union (EU), whose countries received 72.8% of the Portuguese exports and were the origin of 76.5% of the Portuguese imports in 2015.
How to find a good business partner?
Most businesses have their headquarters in or around the capital Lisbon. The second city is Porto in the north, the third Faro in the south. In terms of distribution, channels are diverse, and still very much local. The supermarket sector however is dominated by German Aldi and Lidl, followed by chains like Apelonia and Continente.
Finding an agent or distributor is easier if you speak Portuguese, although English and Spanish are spoken as well. Knowledge of the local culture and business habits is also important.

We have a clear and structured approach to find the best partner
We first want to know what kind of partner you are looking for. Based on your information, we make a long-list of 15-20 potential partners that fit your description. After your approval we find the right decision maker, approach him or her personally and share your business profile with them. This mostly leads to 3-5 companies who are suitable as your partner and interested in working with you. Once we have found these companies, we plan your meetings and accompany you during the first visits.
