Reading is anonymous
You can read every article on this site, in any of the eight languages, without telling us who you are. We do count how often a page is read and how readers found it, but only after you have agreed to that. See Cookies and measurement below.
What we collect when you use the site
The contact form. Your name, e-mail address, subject and message. We use them to answer you, and we keep the exchange so we still know what was said if you come back to it later.
The HS code validation tool. You describe your product and the tool asks follow-up questions to arrive at the right customs code. We store that conversation together with the country and the page you started from. If you ask for the written report, we also store your first name and e-mail address, so we can send it to you.
Payment for a report. Payments run through Stripe. You enter your card details on Stripe’s own page, not on ours — we never see or store them. What we receive back is the confirmation that the payment succeeded, which we keep with the report because we need it for our accounts.
The export readiness chat. The questions you answer and the advice the tool produces. If you leave your name and e-mail address to receive the outcome, those are stored with it.
The service providers page. Nothing you do there reaches us. The professionals listed have their own contact details, and you approach them directly, so we do not pass your details on to anyone and there is no lead being sold behind the scenes.
About the two chat tools
The conversations in the HS code tool and the export readiness chat are processed by OpenAI, which supplies the language model behind them. We use their business interface, under which your input is not used to train their models and is deleted after at most 30 days on their side.
Still, please do not type anything into those chats that you would not want to leave your company: describing your product is fine, sending along a customer list is not. Everything you type is stored with the case on our server so we can produce and resend your report.
Why we are allowed to do this
- To carry out an agreement with you or to prepare one: answering your question, producing the report you paid for, and sending it.
- Because we have a legitimate interest: keeping a record of earlier contact, and understanding which articles are useful so we can improve them. You can object to this at any time.
- With your consent: the measurement cookies described below. You can withdraw it whenever you like.
- Because the law requires it: we keep invoices and payment records for seven years, as Dutch tax law prescribes.

Who else gets to see it
We do not sell your data and we do not hand it to anyone for their own marketing. We do work with a small number of suppliers who are needed to keep the site running, and we have a data processing agreement with each of them.
- VDX, our hosting provider in the Netherlands, for the website, the database and our mailboxes.
- OpenAI, for the two chat tools described above.
- Stripe, for payments.
- Google, and only if you consent to it, for measuring visits and for advertising elsewhere.
- Our accountant, for the invoices.
Some of these suppliers are based in the United States. Those transfers are covered by the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses, supplemented by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework where the supplier is certified under it.
Cookies and measurement
The first time you visit, we ask whether we may place cookies. Choose Only necessary and nothing is measured. We ask this in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the United States, Singapore and Australia; elsewhere the banner does not appear, but you can still change your choice at any time through the link at the bottom of every page. Your choice is stored in a single cookie for six months.
- Necessary — remembering your cookie choice, keeping the site working and protecting the forms. Always on.
- Analytics — Google Analytics 4, to see which articles are read. Aggregated, never used to single you out.
- Marketing — Google Ads, to see which advertisement led to a visit and to show you a relevant advertisement elsewhere.
Separately, and without any cookie, we count how often our pages are opened through an AI assistant such as ChatGPT or Perplexity. We store the page and the assistant it came from, nothing about the reader.
Security
All traffic to this site runs over an encrypted connection. The administration area is protected with two-factor authentication, and access to the stored cases is limited to the people who need it — in practice, Alfred Griffioen. Card details never touch our server.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, have the processing restricted, receive your data in a portable file, and object to its use. Any consent you have given can be withdrawn.
One e-mail to alfred@exporteers.com is enough. We answer within one month and usually much sooner. If we cannot tell from your request that it is really you, we will ask you something only the two of us can know — we will never ask you to send a copy of your passport or ID.
If you are not satisfied with how we handle it, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, Postbus 93374, 2509 AJ The Hague, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl), or to the supervisory authority in the EU country where you live.
Children
This site is meant for people doing business across borders. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16, and we have no practical way of checking anyone’s age.
Changes
If the way we handle your data changes, we will update this statement. This version is from 27 September 2026.
