Saudi Arabia has a population of about 35 million people, including a large expatriate community, and a GDP per capita of approximately $30,000 USD in 2023. It is the largest economy in the Middle East.
Oil and petrochemicals are still the backbone of the economy, but the government is investing heavily in diversification under Vision 2030, with growth in tourism, entertainment, construction, logistics and manufacturing.
Saudi Arabia’s main imports include vehicles, machinery, electronics, pharmaceuticals and food, as a large share of the food consumed in the country is imported. Registration with the relevant authorities, Arabic labelling and halal certification are often required.
Key cities include Riyadh, the capital and main business centre; Jeddah, the largest port on the Red Sea and the commercial gateway to Mecca; and Dammam, the industrial and port centre of the Eastern Province.
